Add A Site Section

We have seen how easy it is to edit and modify pages on the site using i-ntarsiaTM, but what about adding a whole section? Once again the process is simple and intuitive. To demonstrate this, let's add a "Tax and Legal" section to The Bartering Tool, such that it is available from every page on the site.

The user starts by creating the section in the Site Structure View by clicking the "Add Section" icon at the top level of the tree (sections can be created at any level in the tree, but in this case we want to create top level section). The page that follows asks for key data about the section:

Create a section

Once the user hits the "Save" button they return to the Site Structure View to see that the section has been added.

Section created

The next step is to create an index page for the section. To do this the user simply clicks on the "Add Page" icon next to the "Tax and Legal" section. Once again, the user has to enter data about the page they are creating:

Creating a blank page

Once i-ntarsiaTM has all of the relevant data about the page being created, the user is taken to the Page Status and given the opportunity to add content to the panels available in the template. (Notice that we are now using a different template. There is no limit to the number of templates on a site, although most sites can be built with five or less!).

The new page ready to add content

Adding content and menus to the page is easy, as they are already existing panels, and can be dropped in.

Drop in existing menus and content

The last thing to do for the page is to add the main content panel. This time the user copies and pastes from their word processor, and then adds web style formatting.

Paste in content from a word processor

Now we have the page on the site, the user needs to add a link to it from every other page! This is where i-ntarsia's content management features really make the user's life easy. Rather than use the Site Structure View, it's time to look at how the content panels and menus are organised. To edit a menu, the user selects "Menu Tree" from the "Build" menu dropdown.

Select

The user will then have a view that looks similar to the Site Structure View, but only shows the individual menu panels and the actions they can perform on them.

The menu tree

To edit the menu, the user clicks on the "Edit Menu" icon and is taken straight to the editor with the menu. Here they can and the link to "Tax and Legal".

Editing the menu

Once the edit is done, the user has the publish options. Selecting either option will update every page on the site which uses the menu (in our case, all 252 of them!) in seconds.

The new section in place

Every panel in i-ntarsia is accessible from one of the panel trees and can be used and reused as many times as the user requires, making building complex sites quick and easy.
